For an established, family-owned precision manufacturer serving the aerospace and defense industries, the challenge wasn't a lack of opportunity. Following a leadership transition, the company inherited years of operating losses, high overhead costs, and mounting vendor debt. Despite promising growth opportunities under new management, its existing bank was unwilling to refinance.
Recognizing the strength of the new leadership team, valuable owner-occupied commercial real estate, and a credible turnaround strategy, Flatbay Capital stepped in. Led by Houston Partner/BDO Vivian Thompson, Flatbay structured a flexible CRE line of credit, initially providing $2 million and ultimately expanding the facility to $2.64 million as the business demonstrated progress.
The financing allowed the manufacturer to refinance existing debt, bring vendor accounts current, and access working capital for equipment and production needs. Beyond liquidity, Flatbay worked closely with leadership to evaluate how capital could be deployed to support long-term growth.
With greater financial flexibility, management reduced overhead, strengthened budgeting and operational controls, and pursued higher-margin opportunities in aerospace and defense manufacturing. The company expanded its customer base, reduced concentration risk, and invested in engineering capabilities to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
The result was more than a financial turnaround. The manufacturer emerged more diversified, scalable, and resilient—and successfully transitioned back to traditional bank financing.
The successful exit validated Flatbay Capital's bridge financing approach: providing capital to established businesses during periods of transition while positioning them for long-term bankability.
