Luis-Ernesto Clavijo is a licensed attorney, banking professional, and advisor with more than 20 years of experience across commercial banking, law, project finance, and strategic advisory. Based in Washington, D.C., he brings a multidisciplinary background in credit structuring, relationship banking, and complex financial transactions, with experience supporting operating businesses through growth, transition, and balance sheet optimization.
Prior to joining Flatbay Capital, Luis held commercial banking and leadership roles with First Citizens Bank, Capital One, M&T Bank, Fulton Financial, BB&T, and TD, where he worked closely with business owners, financial institutions, and advisory partners across the Washington, D.C. and Mid-Atlantic markets. His experience spans commercial lending, real estate finance, project finance, M&A-related capital needs, working capital, and deal structuring, positioning him as a trusted partner in situations that require both technical rigor and practical execution.
At Flatbay Capital, Luis focuses on building partnerships with bankers, intermediaries, and business owners throughout the Mid-Atlantic as demand grows for owner-occupied CRE–secured private credit. His legal, banking, and advisory background allows him to help stakeholders evaluate nuanced credit situations, structure transitional capital solutions, and create a path back to traditional financing.
Luis is also actively engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership across the Washington, D.C. region. He has served in leadership or advisory roles with organizations including the Washington, D.C. Commission on Latino Community Development, Metro DC Hispanic Contractors Association, Latino Executive Network, Mary’s Center, and the American University Washington College of Law Alumni Association.
Luis is recognized for his ability to connect institutional capital with underserved and transitional markets, bringing a disciplined, relationship-driven approach to credit, community development, and long-term value creation.
